NEVER HAND ROLL FIRE HOSE AGAIN: The Rookie Sidekick
All-In-One Portable Motorized Fire Hose Roller Effortlessly
Rolls Any Size Fire Hose

BEND, OR – With The Rookie Sidekick All-In-One (AIO),
firefighters can wave good-bye to rolling fire hose by
hand. Deschutes River Manufacturing, creator of the world’s
only portable motorized fire hose rollers, has developed
a one-machine solution for rolling hose of any diameter,
from 1-1/2 to 6 inches.
By simply moving two pins, The Rookie Sidekick AIO instantly
adjusts from one hose diameter to another. With the proper
size selected, a single firefighter can then quickly,
safely and perfectly roll hose length after hose length
— in a fraction of the time it takes to do the job
by hand and without any risk of back injuries from stooping
over to roll and lift.
The Rookie Sidekick is currently being used by fire suppression
agencies and firefighters from Texas to Canada, including
the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau
of Land Management, power utilities and municipal fire
departments. Industrial customers include Hagemeyer, Union
Carbide-Dow Chemical, Marathon Oil, Conoco-Phillips, Exxon-Mobil
and Suncor.
“After our department tried The Rookie
Sidekick, we felt it was a piece of equipment we had to
have,” explains Gary Spoor, assistant
chief, South Bend VFD, South Bend Washington. “We
recently upgraded to 5-inch hose on our engines.
The Rookie Sidekick has helped us out with that for two
main reasons: One is safety
— the larger diameter hose is heavier, harder to
handle and more likely to cause back injuries. And the
other is time — The Rookie does a better
job getting air out of the hose for redecking it.”
The Rookie Sidekick AIO hose rollers and The Rookie Reloader
are available to put through the paces without obligation
to buy through a 30-day trial program. All Sidekick models
are equipped with either a Honda gas engine or Baldor
electric motor. Larger electric models feature variable-speed
controls.
The Rookie Reloader is an optional re-loading rack that
transforms the portable stand into an efficient hose handling
system. The equipment allows firefighters to effortlessly
transport rolled hoses and it reduces the labor needed
to re-load hose back on to the engines.
The Rookie products are OHSA-inspected. All products can
be ordered directly from Deschutes River Manufacturing,
and the original Rookie units are available through the
GSA system (GSA orders do not qualify for the 30-day trial).
